Awakening Awareness

Pastor Erika Rimbert Smith of the Washington Shores Presbyterian Church located at 3600 Rogers Dr. in Orlando hosted a Community Festival along with a very nice exchange of information on March 1, 2025. Taking part in the discussions of concerned with issues affecting the state of the Black community was the Florida Voter’s League, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, along with community and Orlando citizens.

Discussions included:

  • Reviewing the actual Project 2925 changes that have been made and their real effects.
  • How the cabinet appointment will affect decision making in the years to come.
  • The effects on school aged kids with the lost of funding for meal programs.
  • The future effects of the lost of support for DEI programs.
  • The change in how voter registration is being done by 3rd party organizations.
  • The effects of the continued erasure of Black culture.
  • How the department of correction seeks to maintain people in the system.
  • The coming of a “state of emergency” declaration.
  • Solving the homeless problem in Orlando.

Along with the serious discussions, food was provided for all who attended along with fun, games for the kids. It was promised that this type of gathering will be continued in the future.
